Abstract

Previous research has demonstrated empirically the effectiveness of the One-More-Than technique in producing money counting skills that generalize to non-trained amounts and making community purchases with individuals with moderate mental retardation. The present study was designed to systematically replicate and extend previous research by (1) using one-, five-, and ten-dollar bills and (2) training all dollar amounts simultaneously rather than sequentially. The study was conducted with three high school students labeled moderately mentally handicapped who were enrolled in community-based training. Results indicated that all three students learned to use the One-More-Than technique to count out non-trained amounts and to make community purchases.
